We are a small company with big goals in helping and sustaining our green environment. My Journey into the bamboo world began when I was growing up in Malaysia and was fascinated by the many different kinds of bamboo plants that grew in the jungle with some species staying low to the ground and reaching only a few inches in height to other species that grew up to a hundred feet and with over a foot in diamter. Bamboo is a source of great diversity in the economy, culture and history of South East Asia. I saw tall buildings wrapped up in bamboo scaffolding with construction workers climbing up and down with their heavy load of materials I listened to the sound of drums and gongs accompanied by pan flutes, instruments made of bamboo, at a “Wayang Kulit” (Shadow Puppet Show) I ate at fine restaurants that served delicious meals made with “bamboo shoots”. My grandmother had a beautiful handcrafted wing shaped bamboo chair that she loved to lounge on. At school when I competed at track and field there were no fiber glass made poles for the pole vault event. We used bamboo poles to vault to “soaring heights” (high enough for that period). The strength, beauty and delicacy of this amazing plant is so evident in our daily life and with a few simple tools and ideas we can easily shape bamboo into more than a thousand uses. At Solai Bamboo, we are happy to share our knowledge and experience with you. We have learned from you our customers in your experience building and creating things with bamboo and we pass on your experience to others. |
